Heartsaver CPR/AED training is being offered to the TBA membership by an American Heart Association-certified educator. CPR is cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED is automatic external defibrillator.

Two training methods are available: a blended learning combining on-line and in-person training, and a classroom-only training.

Heartsaver CPR/AED is geared for anyone with limited or no medical training. After successful completion of the training you will earn a Heartsaver CPR AED card which is valid for two years. The course also covers how to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants.

Blended learning involves an online portion followed by a hands-on skill session. Heartsaver CPR AED Online teaches information needed for CPR and AED training. Upon completion of the online portion, students must print their certificate of completion and bring it on Tuesday evening, February 4, 6:00-7:30 p.m. in order to participate in the hands-on skill session. The online training portion can be completed in approximately 1-3/4 hours.

Classroom-only training will take place Sunday morning, February 9, from 9:30 a.m.-1:00p.m. This course is instructor-led course and teaches adult, child, and infant CPR and AED use.

All in-person training is provided by American Heart Association (AHA) certified-instructor.

The blended course (both e-learning and in-person learning) requires two fees: $15 fee for the online training and a $17 fee for the in-person component and Heart Saver certification. Alternatively, the instructor-led, classroom-only training class requires just the payment of $17 for the course and certification.

Comparison of courses:

Blended learning involving online and in-person training
Blended learning involves 90 minutes in the classroom, vs. 3 ½ hours for the classroom-only course
Blended learning and certification costs $32 vs. $17 for classroom-only plus certification
In-person session on Tuesday, February 4, requires prior successful completion of the online training and printed certificate
Students who successfully complete either training will have a Heartsaver CPR/AED certificate which is valid for two years.
